Text Service Information

ABATE of Iowa has contracted with a texting service as another tool to contact our membership and informing you of legislative alerts. This service is set up and ready to go. Below are the instructions of how to opt into receiving text messages. The alerts will not cost you anything unless your phone company charges for incoming text messages. These alerts may be as simple as asking you to check our webpage for instructions, or to simply call your legislator with our concerns at the current time. It is a good idea to also put the phone numbers of the Iowa Senate and Iowa House in you phonebook just in case. The switchboard for the Iowa House of Representatives is 515-281-3221 and the switchboard number for the Iowa State Senate is 515-281-3371. Please remember that every call counts, we need everyone to opt into this and to make calls when asked.

Welcome to Simry Text messaging. Your keyword abateia has been set up and is ready for you to opt in. To facilitate the opt-in process, I wanted to provide you with instructions to ensure your membership can opt in quickly and easily.

Opting in to the abateia keyword:

1. Locate the message center on your phone. It may be a symbol, such as an envelope, or it may be the word "message".

2. Select that feature and it will give several options in the messaging center, such as New Message, Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Voicemail, etc.

3. Select the "New Message" option. Depending on your phone's model, it may say SMS Text, which stands for Short Message Service.

4. Select TXT msg, or equivalent on your phone. You will be prompted to either enter or select the phone number to send a text message. To opt-in to the SIMRY keyword, you will need to enter 74679 as the phone number. 74679 corresponds to the word SIMRY on your phone's dial display.

5. Select "OK" or "Enter" to advance to the screen to enter your message. Here type only abateia and erase any signature you may have programmed at the end of all text messages you send.

6. Send message. You will receive a confirmation message 'Welcome to abateia. Reply Stop 2 Cancel or visit SIMRY.Com today.' Now the member will receive all future text messages sent to the opted in membership.
