Iowa Steam
Iowa S.T.E.A.M. is ABATE of Iowa’s state seminar for its officers and members. It usually takes place the second week in November. S.T.E.A.M. stands for "Seminar To Educate And Motivate". Its purpose is to help educate officers and members on their duties as officers as well as to help them to understand what ABATE is all about. The seminar also helps to renew enthusiasm and motivation to the tasks at hand. All ABATE officers are strongly encouraged to attend but the workshops are open to all ABATE members. The workshops are offered free of cost to all members. There is a charge for the banquet and the hotel rooms. Hotel room reservations are to be made at the host hotel. Information about the seminar can be obtained from the ABATE of Iowa state office.
The seminar starts on Friday with registration and a special general session workshop followed by a hospitality get together to encourage the districts to mingle and get to know members from other districts. Saturday morning starts with registration and a set of early bird workshops for those who like to start the day early. They are followed by the Opening Ceremony, which is a general session with special speakers. All members attending are asked to attend this general session. After Opening Ceremony there are usually two or three more sessions of workshops. Saturday night there is an awards banquet where we honor those who have made a special contribution to or have worked hard for ABATE in the past year. For those who want to expand their wardrobe, ABATE inventory will be for sale all weekend. The weekend ends with the BOD meeting on Sunday morning.
