District 19 January 2011 Newsletter
Happy New Year to everyone. Does anyone make New Years Resolutions anymore? I used to do that, but then discovered that lasted for about a week and then it was forgotten about. So we don’t do that anymore. January 1st is always a time we think about making things better in our lives and/or turning over a new leaf. So how do we do that? Maybe issues have been speaking to us during the past year. If it is changeable, then we can work towards that. Our spouse can have helpful hints for us, or good friends can gently help us see changes that need to be made. But it eventually comes down to ourselves and how determined we are to better ourselves. So we have a goal for the New Year. Good luck to everyone if you need to make any change in your life.

December 2011 Newsletter
Christmas is almost here. From the looks of the snow storm we had over the
past week end it seems closer than ever. What are we doing to get ready for
Christmas? Have we each been frantically rushing through the stores & malls
picking up something for someone that grabs our attention at the moment?
Have we been baking many fattening cookies & other goodies that we really
don't need to eat? Or have we been decorating our homes with the look of
Christmas with the tree, garland strung around in places and other things
set up? Do you have Christmas music playing softly in the back ground? Are
our churches having special Christmas programs this month? Are we talking
to our family, friends & neighbors about the real meaning of Christmas?
Jesus came to us as a tiny baby one night many years ago. He came not so
that the shepherds and wise men would have somewhere to go, although they
did, or have someone to bring gifts to, although they did that too, but He
came for the express purpose of dying on a cross 33 years later so that we
would have opportunity to receive His invitation of eternal life and be able
to spend eternity in Heaven with Him one day. Not everyone will receive His
gift, but those who do will have something wonderful to look forward to.
I invite you to reread the Christmas story from the Bible in Luke 2 this
month. Ponder on what each person's part was in the story. Where do we
each fit in?
Are we doing something good in our town this year? There are many smells
around Christmas time with pine trees in the living room and cinnamon
candles burning. Smells or aromas come not only in the form of smells
through our nose. Smells come from the way we act and the way we live.
There is an aroma in your part of town as to what you are doing. Take a
deep breath. What does it smell like? Is it good or bad? Do we need to
change some things? God has placed you there for a particular reason. What
are you doing with it?
Let's give back some of ourselves to the people we associate with this year.
Give a good Christmas gift in the form of a random act of kindness and see
what happens. Everyone will be blessed.
