District 10’s meeting was called to order on March 15 at Spare Time Lanes in Jefferson by District Coordinator Doug Smith. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and we had a moment of silence to honor out lost brothers and sisters. Roll call of officers was taken with Doug, DL, Larry, Ron, Jess, Dean and Jean all being present. Mark, Cheryl and Deb were excused and Scott and Sheila were planning to arrive late. We welcomed guests David Dahl and his squeeze Lucy.

Events: DL gave the events run down for Cheryl. Next dinner run is at Ikes/Home Plate in Pocahontas on April 5th. Dinner will be at 5:00 because the kitchen doesn’t open until then. Dart tournament at Riverside Tap in Lehigh following our meeting on April 19. We will be having two possibly three bands at the Fun Run party on June 14 in Lower Sheldon Park in Humboldt. Ski Band is planning on having Planet Rock play and then possibly a another band to open. Frontier’s Day Parade is on June 7 in Fort Dodge and Cheryl will be sending in our application for the parade.

Legislative: Jess report for Mark indicated there were between 175 to 200 people who attended Lobby Day. He also brought up that with the new smoking ban the legislature is trying to pass it could affect smoking on the grounds at the Freedom Rally. We all need to step up and contact our elected officials and inform them we are totally against any ban. He pointed out that there was a state where a bill was introduced where if you were considered obese you could not eat at a restaurant. It didn’t pass but it the smoking ban is the same type of law. So even if you don’t smoke it is still the government finding one more way to control our lives. Everyone needs to contact their state representative and tell them no.

MRF: Jess indicated Mary Peters is pushing to get funds that the government has allocated for Motorcycle safety, training and education to be used to lobby for a federally mandated helmet law. In effect she wants to take funds we have raised and use them against us for a helmet law. We need to contact our federal officials and let them know in no uncertain terms we are totally against these funds being used for anything other than motorcycle safety and awareness and education. Also Polly wanted everyone to know that MRF has unfortunately had to raise their membership fees to cover expenses.

Share The Road: Dean reminded everyone of the next presentations for Share the Road are as follows: Wednesday May 7 at 8:00 at Fort Dodge Senior High; Saturday May 31 at 8:00 at St Edmond High School and then at 10:00 the same day at SE Webster in Burnside; Saturday July 12 at 8:00 at Iowa Central College. Doug indicated Wayne Wierson had a meeting with the Colonel of the Iowa Highway Patrol about giving his STR presentation to the upcoming recruits. Jess indicated Wayne had also been approached by insurance companies to give his presentation to their employees.

State Meeting: Doug indicated that the state office was looking for more ranges to be available to give the Rider’s Education course. The lot needs to be at least 260’ by 160’ and contact Tammie Deter if you know of any places. Mary Carlson is looking for help in the treasury at the rally and contact her if you are willing to volunteer. Jim Berte needs 2 dispatchers for the rally, Janet Berte needs two more gate chiefs and if you are interested contact Doug and he will let Jim or Janet know. Wayne Wierson is willing to do a “Train the Trainers” course for STR instructors for anyone interested. Security and Gate Duty have been assigned for the rally. District 10 has Security on July 3 from 12 to 4pm and July 5 from 4am to 8am. Gate Duty is Friday July 4 from 12 to 4pm
