District 10’s meeting was called to order by Doug Smith, District Coordinator on June 19 at Cornerstone Pub in Emmetsburg. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and we had a moment of silence to honor our lost brothers and sisters. Roll call of officers was taken with Doug, DL, Ron, Jean, Cheryl, Sheila, Deb, Mark, Melissa, Theresa, Jess, Dean, Scott and Little being present. Barb, Larry and Ginny were excused. We welcomed new member Dana Snow and guest Mary Snow.

Sexy-tary’s Report: Jean read the minutes from the May meeting. Jim Berte made a motion to accept; Theresa Benjamin seconded; motion carried with Brian Morey abstaining.

Treasurer’s Report: Sheila indicated three checks had been written from the general fund; one to ABATE of Iowa for taxes; one to Jess Tepner for Heartland STEAM for rooms and an auction item and one to Sheila Evans for Share the Road. There was one deposit to the general fund. There had been a check written from the Downed Biker fund for flowers for Doug’s mom and a deposit there also. There was one check written from the Toy Run account to reimburse Doug Smith for the tool box for the raffle. Mary Carlson made a motion to accept; Sherry Carlson seconded; motion carried.

Membership: Deb reported we had 42 people present with 36 members signed in and 1 guest.

Events; Cheryl reminded everyone of the following events; July 17, meeting at the VFW in Sac City; July 24 is the Tin Butt Run, sign up at Freedom Park from 9 to 11; August 21 is the Bikes for Tykes run; sign up at Rockwell City Prison from 11 to 1 and the meeting to follow at 6:00 at the Finish Line in Webster City. She also indicated she had arranged the bus trip to sell the Toy Run raffle tickets on Friday August 13 and will later arrange where the most central place for all the women to meet is. She also indicated Bode had asked if we still wanted to participate in their parade on August 7 and anyone wanting to attend let her know. Doug then asked her if the Freedom Rally was still going on July 1, 2, 3 and she indicated oh yeah there is that too.

Legislative: Mark indicated he left his notes at home so he would have twice as much next time.  D L  brought up that Don Wilson was trying to get Amigo’s Bike Night shut down due to the noise. It was discussed that since we were there we needed to spread the word to the attendees about watching the noise when they leave since the cops are just waiting for an excuse to bust them. Doug also said he had spoke with the mayor and if a noise ordinance was put on the agenda for the Fort Dodge city council the mayor was going to notify Doug and he in turn would notify us.

MRF: Jess indicated Bikers in the Beltway had taken place last month and there was a large turnout.

Webmaster: Scott reported that when you go to the District 10’s website the flyer for the Tanner Ruberg Memorial Scholarship Run pops up. Tanner was 17 when he was killed in a snowmobile accident and Scott indicated that Mike Ruberg, his uncle, was a long time member of ABATE and Tanner was a member when he died. Scott thinks it’s important they have a big turnout from ABATE members. The run is on June 26 with signup from 10 to 12 at the Beach House in Humboldt.

Share the Road: Dean reported that District 10 had presented Share the Road to 190 students and 9 adults from May 22 thru June 19. He also indicated there were two coming up in July but he didn’t have the dates with him. June 25th @ Webster City High School  sarting @ 9:00 am. July 10th @ ICCC starting @ 8:00 am.

Assistant’s Report: DL wanted to thank everyone who attended Iowa Thunder, the Frontier’s Day Parade and helped with clean up at the park. He also reminded everyone that District 10 has gate duty on Friday July 2 from 12pm to 4pm and Security duty from 8am to 12pm on Thursday July 1 and from Midnight to 4am on Saturday July 3. He wants everyone to help out at our assigned times. Ron read a thank you note from Randy Miliken for the flowers sent when his mother passed away.

Old Business: Mary reminded everyone that today was the last day advance rally tickets could be bought; see Doug after the meeting if they were interested. Doug also indicated he had Toy Run Raffle tickets for people to sell and to see him or Sheila after the meeting to sign the raffle tickets out and to take the flyers with so people know what the prizes are. Dean brought up the Gowrie parade on July 5.

New Business: Janet Berte let everyone know that it had been decided to start banding people for the rally when they come in to set up since we have so many people coming in and setting up early. The committee thought we were missing a lot of people from paying and wanted to try and get people banded when they come in to save on “round up” on Thursday. It was also brought up that the walk bridge from the hayfield to Jurassic park was completed and we needed to make sure we thanked the people, like Harlan and Chris Thompson for all their hard work in getting things up and running before the rally. Left out during the Meeting: A person or a supporting business can buy a plaque to be put on the new walk bridge to help offset the cost of the bridge the plaques cost 50.00 for a red white and blue one and 100.00 for a Gold one. Doug will provide more if as it is received and will be spread by email to the district.

Announcements: The vendor Crazy Bob’s is celebrating his twentieth year at the rally and everyone should remember to thank him. Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge has been signed up as a new supporting business and on July 16 they will be having a Bike Night. Please help show our support. The Save the TaTa’s organizers will be there that night also selling their products. Sherry Carlson wanted to thank everyone who attended the JJ Bonnell memorial run. Whittemore Legion Riders’ Fun Run Saturday June 26th @ 11:00 am leaving Bob’s Bar in Pocahontas IA. Doug reminded everyone to show up for our districts gate duty and security duty at the rally. Doyle Carlson made a motion to adjourn; Brian Morey seconded; motion carried with Phil McCormick and Jeremy Hauck abstaining.
