District 10’s meeting was called to order on April 19 at Riverside Tap in Lehigh by District Coordinator Doug Smith. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and we had a moment of silence to honor out lost brothers and sisters. Roll call of officers was taken with Doug, DL, Jean, Cheryl, Deb, Ron, Mark, Sheila and Jess being present. Scott, Cori, Larry and Dean were excused. We welcomed guests Brent Schleuger, Steve Salisbury, Jennifer Plahn, Drew Zimmermann and new member Lurch Evans.

 

Sexy-tary’s Report: Jean read the minutes from the March meeting. Kat Barrick made a motion to accept; Terry Arnold seconded, motion carried

 

Treasurer’s Report: Sheila indicated two checks had been written out of the general fund. One to Becky McCubbin for Rip Rapple patches and one to Doug Smith for PAC. There had been a deposit to the general fund. Down biker fund 1 check for Harlan Thompson’s mom’s flowers. No activity on the Toy run account. Tina Allen made a motion to accept; Harlan Thompson seconded; motion carried

 

Membership: Deb reported we had 52 members present and four guests

 

Events: Cheryl reminded everyone of the Spring Fling on May 3, our first run of the year. Sign up is at Ralph’s Tap in Moorland beginning at 11:00 and ending with our dinner at Country Inn Bar and Grill in Swea City. Trash pickup is on May 17th. Meet at Ampride in Humboldt at 2:00 with the meeting to follow at The Well in Goldfield. Remember tickets are available for the Toy Run Raffle. Talk to Doug after the meeting. Frontier’s Day Parade is on June 7 in Fort Dodge and Cheryl has sent in our application for the parade.

 

Legislative: Mark indicated that Senator Daryl Beal has legislation going to restore the 2 million dollars taken from the RV and ATV user’s trust fund to be given back to them. It is in the House right now with Helen Miller pushing for it but she indicates that it looks like we could fall short by one vote. We also need to contact our legislation in regards to bill HF 465 requiring anyone under the age of 18 on a motorcycle to wear helmets.

 

MRF: Jess indicated Mary Peters is personally lobbying every state for a federally mandated helmet law all because she doesn’t know how to safely ride a motorcycle. He also indicated he would be unable to attend STEAM in South Dakota.

 

Share The Road: DL reminded everyone of the next presentations for Share the Road are as follows: Wednesday May 7 at 8:00 at Fort Dodge Senior High; Saturday May 31 at 8:00 at St Edmond High School and then at 10:00 the same day at SE Webster in Burnside; Thursday June 5 at 9:15 at the Emmetsburg High school; Saturday July 12 at 8:00 at Iowa Central College. Doug indicated everyone who can, should attend. It is fun talking with the kids and the more people who show up the bigger impact we have on the kids to watch out for motorcyclists.

 

Assistant’s Report: DL wanted to remind everyone that if you are at the Rally during District 10’s time to do Gate and Security Duty to please show up and volunteer. It is only a couple of hours, it is not hard work and if you do two shifts you get reimbursed for your ticket to the Rally. We need all the help we can get and last year we ran short a couple of times. We have the second largest membership for the state and surely we can cover our times for the gate and security duty. He also reminded everyone to pay Sheila to participate in the dart tournament to follow the meeting, 5.00 for members and 7:00 for non members.

 

Old Business: Doug indicated the state had lost his permit for postage for the newsletter and this time he hand delivered so the newsletter should be going out soon. He also reminded everyone he had tickets for the Toy Run Raffle and he wanted help selling them.

 

New Business: Devon Evans indicated there was going to be a Benefit on June 7 for Rod Gilday. Buck Boring made a motion for the district to buy a couple’s ticket to the Rally as part for the prizes at the Benefit; Terry Arnold seconded, the motion carried. Harlan made a motion to buy five maple trees to be planted in our camping area at the park; Kat Barrick seconded the motion; motion carried.

 

Announcements; Doug has Motorcycle raffle tickets for the rider ed Harley. Our work day in the park for our district is 9:00 on May 10 with a rain date of May 31. Rod Gilday benefit run on June 7, 2008 leaving from Amigos. Starting Thursday May 15 Silver Dollar in Blairsburg will be having a weekly Bike Night. Remember the Spring Fling Run is on Saturday May 3 beginning at Ralph’s Tap in Moorland and ending at Country Inn Bar and Grill in Swea City with dinner. Save the Ta, Ta’s run is September 13 beginning at the City square in Fort Dodge. The money raised at this run is given directly to cancer victims in the area for things their insurance and etc doesn’t cover.

 

Harlan Thompson made a motion to adjourn; Slider Hadley seconded; motion carried with Brittany Ray opposed.

 

Doug thanked Kelly from Riverside Tap in Lehigh for hosting our meeting and dart tournament to follow. He thanked the membership for attending.
