The major problem is not any particular anti-bike movement or organization - the problem is that the people who make the laws are people who know nothing about bikes. The little old lady writes her congressman and complains. There is no one offering rebuttal-intelligent, professional rebuttal-to her unfair charges. The congressman, who doesn't hear any arguments against what the old lady said, but does want to please everybody and does want to get elected again, introduces a bill to ban whatever was bugging the old lady. The bikers in the area don't see the small item, buried in the back of the newspaper along with the hemorrhoid cures, announcing the proposed law for all bikes to have roll bars. Since no one sees it, no rebuttal is offered, and the law is passed. Or if it is seen, and a club or two protest, it isn't a loud enough protest, or it is a disorganized protest, or an unprofessional protest, and as a result the law is passed. -

COMING SOON! TO A STATE NEAR YOU!!

California: 2013 and later model motorcycles must be equipped with stock sounding mufflers.

Georgia: Georgia state police is the first to have accepted money from the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission (NHTSC) to implement mandatory Motorcycle Only traffic “safety” stops. Government approved helmet compliance, muffler sound levels, alcohol usage, working blinkers, tire wear, insurance and vehicle registration are being checked. Reports are that Goldwings and BMWs are given a free pass.

Illinois: A bill was introduced to prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from operating any motorcycles or motorized off road recreational vehicles.

Illinois: The city of Chicago initiated motorcycle bans on Lake Shore Drive and on several north side Chicago streets. ABATE of Illinois challenged this law and it was repealed.

Brockton Massachusetts: ALL MOTORCYCLES BANNED FROM CITY PARKS. Motorcycle rights groups came together and challenged this law in the Massachusetts Supreme Court and removed this law. (What would have happened if there were no Motorcycle Rights Organizations?)

Washington DC: The NTHSC is actively lobbying all states, and is moving towards extorting states (through the threat of withholding highway funds) to enact mandatory helmet laws. And seems to be ignoring studies that prove educating car drivers is more effective at saving lives than draconian helmet laws.

The ONLY thing standing between you and these obstructions of your freedoms from becoming laws in the state of Iowa is YOURSELF and ABATE of Iowa. Your ABATE membership dues will be spent educating riders, training volunteers to lobby their elected representatives, educating future drivers about motorcycles on the road and convincing your legislators to do the right thing – to let you RIDE FREE! To let you ride where you want, the way you want, without being targeted just because you are on a motorcycle.  Fill out and send in your membership for ABATE of Iowa today

NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR RIDING RIGHTS!

BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE DOES.
